Britain’s best-loved detective series enters a new era as DCi John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon), a cousin of the original detective, moves in to fight crime in the beautiful but deadly villages of Midsomer. Bentham DeQuetteville falls to his death from the roof of Quitewell hall after the appearance of a headless horseman. The eccentric DeQuettevilles seem unmoved by their loss – the show must go on.

Nothing must be allowed to get in the way of the family’s annual reenactment of the Battle of Naseby. However, Bentham’s death is the first of many, all preceded by sightings of the headless horseman. Barnaby and Jones delve into the DeQuetteville’s history and uncover family myths and legends. But will they discover the truth about the DeQuettevilles and the ghostly rider?
