Details

Hafod Grange have been producing paperweights for over 30 years. The original paperweights were first produced in 1968 by Barry Needham as a form of therapy for muscular dystrophy. He attempted to create embedments that bordered on the impossible. After his death the designs were refined by his brother, Alan Needham, into the products produced today. Hafod Grange is situated in the middle of the Margam Forest and was formerly the summer grazing area for the stock kept by the Cistercian monks of the now ruined Margam Abbey. The paperweights are produced in workshops situated in the 14th Century tithe barn. Most of the botanical specimens encapsulated in the paperweights grow naturally either on the the surrounding mountains or in the carefully tended gardens. Each specimen is hand-picked and then dried using a range of techniques designed to preserve its natural beauty. After drying it is cast in clear resin and then turned and polished to a superb finish.
