Product Description
By the end of June 1940 Britain found herself increasingly isolated within Western Europe in resisting German domination. Following the fall of France, Hitler expected Britain to capitulate, however, the country, led by Winston Churchill, resolved to fight on.
In mid July Hitler decided to effect plans for the invasion of Britain. If Germany was to succeed then the Luftwaffe would have to gain control of the skies and defeat the RAF.
For two months the Luftwaffe battered the South Coast of England before turning their attention to London in early September. Then followed a pivotal battle on September 15th. The Luftwaffe flew over 1000 sorties in a bid to shatter the resistance of the RAF. Heavy fighting followed, however, in the event it was clear to both sides that the German tactics were not working. Two days later Hitler cancelled his invasion plans.
Although fighting continued until the end of October, September 15th was seen as an overwhelming and decisive defeat for the Luftwaffe.
The Battle of Britain uses hitherto unseen footage from the classic 1968 feature film of the same name, together with CGI and re-enactments to tell the story.
DVD Extras
• A documentary on the Sea Hurricane.
• Background to the battle of Britain
• Picture Gallery
