Having completed his Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells, Alfred Wainwright became obsessed with finding the perfect route across the north of England, from the Irish to the North Sea. Following in his footsteps, with his Coast to Coast book as her guide, Julia sets out from the cliffs at St. Bees in Cumbria, crossing moorland, mountains and national parks to reach her destination – the beach at Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire.
